Now that Sandy has left town, everyone has been out surveying the damage. We actually got off pretty lightly. That’s probably because last year’s Halloween storm (and all the tree work afterwards) cleared out all of the deadwood.
We did have one bit of excitement though. A bunch of the neighbors who lost power came over to our house because we still had heat, light, and music. As two of them were walking down the street, there was suddenly a blinding flash directly over their heads, and sparks rained down around them.
It turns out that this pine had snapped and fallen onto the wires.
It knocked down a 5KV power line which was lying in the road for a day with firemen keeping an eye on it. We’re very lucky nobody got killed.
