CNC
My toy for Christmas was a little CNC machine. A Genmitsu 3018. Seems pretty well built and easy to put together. Software is a bit of a hassle. It does come with a CD-ROM with some sort of Windows software, but I didn’t mess with that.
Instead, I’m driving it from a Raspberry Pi using CNCJS. Getting that setup took a bit of thrashing. The primary issue was that it doesn’t want the latest Node.js. I went back to 10.18.0 and it was much happier. Once cncjs is running on the Pi, you can connect up from any computer using a web browser to control it. That looks something like this:
You load the g-code file you saved from Fusion 360, set the origin, and then hit go.
I currently only have engraving bits. I’ll post some more interesting examples once I get some more bits.
