Sugarloaves
On Saturday, we climbed Middle & North Sugarloaf in the White Mountains. The weather was great (much better than the same day last year). These are easy hikes, although the end of Middle Sugarloaf trail gets a bit steep.
The top is mostly bare granite. But there were also patches of blueberries that were already ripe because they get more sunshine than the ones lower that are shaded by trees.
There were also of number of these great mountain laurels. These flowers are actually much smaller than the ones you usually see in a garden.
We had lunch at the top of Middle Sugarloaf.
and then climbed over to North Sugarloaf. That one’s lower and doesn’t have as much bare granite, but it has an awfully nice view towards Mt Washington.
The granite was comfortably warm from the sunshine and the older folks all ended up napping while the youngsters talked video games.
