Numbers & Shapes
I recently discovered the record Numbers & Shapes by Rebecca Brandt. I’m really enjoying it. It’s easy to compare it to Philip Glass because a lot of it is based on repeating structures with variations. However I think that it has more of a human feel than a lot of Glass’ work. In some ways it reminds me of the Philip Glass piece Aguas da Amazonia that Uakti recorded a few years ago, but with a bit more swing. It also sounds a bit like some of the stuff that John Zorn did around the time of The Dreamers. I particularly like Rebecca’s piece entitled Run.
