Roadrunner
Joyce Linehan, who helped bring us Senator Warren, has embarked on another important political battle. She’s gotten Marty Walsh to introduce a bill in the legislature which declares Roadrunner the official state song of Massachusetts. If you’re a Facebook user, you can find the details here.
This proposal has generated a lot of noise. A lot of it probably is really about people’s feelings about Jonathan Richman and the other local musicians of that period. But the song it self does a great job of capturing what it’s like to be young in Massachusetts. If you’re not familiar with the song, you could read these articles in the Phoenix or the Guardian. Or better yet, just listen. Here’s a crackly rip of the best of the many versions that the lovers recorded.
In a vaguely related note, the Onion is picking on us again. They do it pretty well, don’t they?
The Globe had a poked a little fun back at the Onion: Onion is ‘fake’, Globe uncovers
Thanks for the support! -Joyce Linehan
