Memorial Day Weekend
We had a busy Memorial Day weekend this year, and fortunately the weather was perfect! The pool opened on Saturday, and I had to get all of the lifeguards’ schedules completed. We also had some of the neighbor’s chicks staying with us for the weekend while they were in Vermont. Faith thought that was the highlight of the weekend.
On Sunday Jae Ha and his family were in town on their way up to Maine, staying overnight at Curt and Mary’s as usual. Curt & Mary’s daughter Elana had a big soccer tournament, but the boys had a great time playing together all day.
For dinner everyone had lobster – did you know that the local supermarket will steam them for you if you call ahead? I didn’t – it’s a great idea for large groups and I’m glad I know now.
After dark the kids got sparklers out.
Scoutmaster Jae helped them get a fire started out back, and when it died down to coals, everyone toasted marshmallows and made s’mores.
It was great seeing Jae, Rebecca, and Cameron again.
When we woke up this morning, we could still smell smoke and the air was a little hazy. No, our fire was safely doused. The smoke was coming from forest fires in Quebec.
On Monday, it was time for the 9th annual Cavanaugh-Gschwend Memorial Day Softball game. When it got started, most of the kids were just starting Little League, and the Dads pitched.
Now several of them tower over the adults, and have to take it easy on us when they’re pitching.
Everyone played, all the families are mixed up, and everyone had a lot of fun.
After the presentation of the trophy, everyone met up at Colleen and Phil’s for a nice BBQ.
