4th of July
Yesterday we all went canoeing on the Concord river. It’s been really hot this weekend, so the river was an awfully nice place to be. We went to the South Bridge Boat House and rented a canoe and a kayak.
Even though it was very hot, we still saw quite a bit of wildlife along the river including turtles, red-tailed hawks, and a couple of big herons.
When we reached the Old North Bridge, we met a group of reenactors who were marking the dedication of the Obelisk on the 4th in 1837 with a singing of Emerson’s The Concord Hymn.
After singing the hymn, they did a 3 gun salute on the bridge, which really surprised a couple of kids who were just arriving.
Everyone really enjoyed the kayak because it was so zippy, …
… and Peter found a lot of good climbing trees after lunch.
All in all, a great way to spend the Fourth of July.
