Shakespeare On The Common
Last night we went to Shakespeare on the Common. Every summer, the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company puts on a series of plays on an open air stage on Boston Common. It’s one of our favorite events of the summer. This year they’re doing Othello. It was an absolutely perfect night in town. Not too hot or cold, pretty sunset.
This is the first year that we’ve taken the kids with us. It’s nice that they’ve gotten old enough to be able to appreciate Shakespeare. Othello probably isn’t the easiest play to explain to kids, but they seemed to really enjoy it. Probably because there are plenty of sword fights.
In the past we’ve also enjoyed the performances put on by the Publick Theatre on the banks of the Charles River in Brighton. For example a few years ago we saw a good performance of Stoppard’s Arcadia.
