The Danger of Cosmic Genius
About 30 years ago, Kenneth Brower wrote a wonderful book called The Starship and the Canoe. It’s about Freeman Dyson and his son George. It’s a wonderful book because it’s about so many different things at once: fathers & sons; science & the environment; the 60’s; our place in the universe; and kayaks too.
He’s just published an article in The Atlantic called The Danger of Cosmic Genius, which revisits Freeman and George. The reason for this article is of course all of the publicity about Freeman’s vocal skepticism of global warming. Regardless of your feelings about climate change, you should read this article. If you have read the book, it’s really nice to have this chance to catch up with the characters involved. If you haven’t read the book, then this article might get you interested enough to go find a copy.
I also highly recommend any of Freeman’s books and George’s books.
