Oxford
Chris & I spent the day in Oxford. We had a great time, even though it rained hard all morning.
We got a guided tour of the Bodelian libraries. The tour guide was really good with all sorts of historical details I had never heard before. And of course the buildings and the book collection are gorgeous.
After that we went to an exhibit they are staging about fantasy literature. They have an amazing collection of things like JRR Tolkein’s original sketches for The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings.
Then we visited the Oxford museum of science history. Their collection ranges from early sundials and astrolabes, to modern things like examples of the dishes that the original Penicillin was grown in.
At that point the rain had stopped and it turned in to a beautiful day. So we went foot a walk in ChristChurch Meadow along the river. Sorry we don’t have any pictures. We’ll get some posted as soon as we get back to Boston.
We also got a great meal and some fine ale at the pub we’re staying at: The Head Of The River.
Tomorrow we’re moving on to Cambridge.
