W154 at Lime Rock
The Lime Rock vintage races are this weekend. We’re really looking forward to them. The highlight this year is that a 1939 Mercedes W154 Silver Arrow is coming. I’m sure we’ll come back with lots of photos, but I’m not going to take any video or audio, so I’ll give you a link to this video they sent us of a practice lap in the W154.

What a sound that is! Tom thinks it sounds like … well, I’m not going to repeat what Tom says. What do you think it sounds like? I think it sounds pretty exciting and I can’t wait to see it in action.
Until we get back, here’s a picture from last time we went:
The car in back is one of the NART Ferrari Daytonas. The one in front is a Ford GT-40. That was my favorite racing car when I was a kid. It was an amazing car in its day. Ford decided that they wanted to beat Ferrari at their own game and they pulled out all the stops. This particular car was owned by the Fittipaldi brothers. It’s now owned by Archie Urciuoli. We met him after the races. He’s a really nice guy. He called Peter over and said “You have to sit in this car”.
There’s Peter sitting in the driver’s seat with a big smile.
What I said was that it sounds like a prolonged Hippo fart.
Hemmings Motor News had an article last year with the history of that GT-40.
