Christina Pikas recently wrote a post about an issue she has with Nicholas Carr’s new book. It hits on exactly what I was trying to say the other day, but it does a much better job than I did of getting at the heart of the matter. Her basic premise is that the way you read on the web is very similar to how scientists have been reading papers for years. That may be different from how we read fiction, but calling it “shallow” is certainly inaccurate.
