23andme, the DNA testing service we mentioned the other day is in the news again. Not in a good way I’m afraid. They just announced that they scrambled 96 customers’ samples and posted the wrong results to their website. Go read about it here, here, and here.
This type of mistake isn’t uncommon, and they did a good job of responding quickly and openly, but the incident is probably going to provide more fodder for groups who want to stop this industry. I’m sure that the quote from the woman who found her son couldn’t be related to her is going to come up a few times in this debate.
