New Morgan Trike
I can’t say that many new cars really excite me these days. They’ve all become awfully similar to each other. Lots of silver jelly beans. But at the Geneva auto show, Morgan announced something that I think is really cool. A new version of the classic trike.
We’ve seen some great Morgans at Lime Rock over the years, and have always loved watching the trikes race there. The drivers always look like they’re having way more fun than anyone else.
Morgan licensed the design to Liberty Motors a couple of years ago. Now they’re going to be selling it under the Morgan name. It’s propelled by a 1.8 liter air-cooled V-Twin from Harley Davidson mated to a 5 speed gearbox from Mazda. That should be more than enough to have a lot of fun in a car that only weighs 500kg, and sits that low to the ground.
The best news is that they’re going to be bringing it to the US, and it’s only going to cost about $40K. The trick is that it’ll be registered as a motorcycle, so it doesn’t need all of the airbags and things. Of course that’s exactly how the original was registered to dodge the higher tax rate on cars.
