Lomtalanítás
If you’ve ever lived in Boston, I’m sure you know about Allston Christmas. That’s the day all the students move and leave their unwanted furniture littering the sidewalks for others to claim.
Today I learned that Budapest has something similar called Lomtalanítás. Two times a year, the trash pickup will take “big items” for free. So the night before, everyone puts out all the dreck they’ve been collecting for 6 months. It looks kind of like this:
After that, they head out to start picking through everyone else’s piles! I saw a few choice pieces, including an old automobile engine of unknown provenance, but I resisted.
