Coldframe
Do you remember that kitchen cupboard we took down last fall? I’ve had the pieces lying around the workshop since then. It seemed like a waste to throw them out, especially since one side had nice glass doors. But I didn’t have any great ideas about what to do with them. Then I realized that I could make a coldframe out of them.
I cut one of the big pieces on a diagonal, and then hooked half to each end of the face frame using hinges. That way it’ll all fold up in the off season. Next a long strip across the front hooks up with a couple of wingnuts. The result looks like this:
That spot is sunnier than it looks. I didn’t finish until late in the day and the sun has started going around the corner.
All of those doors open to make it easy to get at the plants.
It’s not the most beautiful thing I’ve ever built, and it could use a coat of paint on those bare spots, but it puts that old cabinet to pretty good use.
