Metropolis
We went to see Alloy Orchestra perform their score at a screening of Metropolis last night. Wow! It was amazing!
We were in the second row and could look down into the pit to see how they were making all of those wild sounds. And during scenes like the big chase scene, the pounding of the drums just rolled over us. You can get a little bit of a feel for what their sound track sounds like from this clip:
It was the newly restored version of the film, with the extra footage which was discovered in Argentina a couple of years ago. It was amazing. The recently found bits aren’t the same high quality as the parts which were restored in 2001, but they seem pretty integral to the story. We were at the Somerville Theatre, which is a great old time theater with a great big screen. It’s a great place to see a movie like this.
Seeing this reminded me of this great YouTube video about MATLAB & Python programming which we were all laughing about at work recently.
